Vinitaly is the national and international wine world’s most eagerly anticipated event and will be held in Verona from April 3-7. There, the Gerardo Cesari 2007 white wines have received their baptism in a tasting at the companys’ stand. Gerardo Cesari has become synonymous with historical wines and the Veronese area with wines that include three Amarone, two Ripasso as well as Valpolicella Classico, Bardolino Classico and Soave Classico, tailored for a select clientele knowledgeable about eminent wines dealing in quality catering and wine stores.
This are the new white wines:
‘Nibai’ Soave Classico 2007
Characterised by a medium straw-yellow colour, bright, with a hawthorn, almond flower bouquet knit to a delicate vanilla fragrance, Soave ‘Nibai’ is pleasant to the taste because its creaminess is perfectly balanced against elegant saltiness. Company President Franco Cesari commented «It has more structure and finesse compared to previous vintages. This is also because of the protracted contact with the yeasts and the fine lees up to February. For us, Nibai is an important white wine, which is why, starting from the new 2007vintage going on sale in June, the label will be given a new makeover becoming simpler, graphically brighter so as to fully convey the wine’s aromatic and sensory intensity»”.
‘Cento Filari’ Lugana 2007
Because of the weather, two harvesting stages were required for the 2007Lugana ‘Cento Filari’. Franco Cesari explains: «the two stages enabled us to obtain more freshness and acidity from the first fermentations knitting them to the maturity and complexity of the grapes gathered during the second stage in early October. Bottle ageing up to the end of February contributed to enhancing its properties». The taste, an explosion of white flowers and hints of peach and apricot, stands out for vivacity and minerality, balanced by harmony and elegance that are quite perceptible. A great beginning for a toast accompanied by a fish or pasta with vegetables dish.
Also being presented at Vinitaly by Gerardo Cesari is the Recioto 2006 which, compared to previous vintages, further exalts the varied characteristics of the mother grapes thanks to an ageing process in barrique and tonneaux during the second and third stages for a period of 12 months. The notes bequeathed by the wood are deliberately reduced in favour of fruitiness and freshness.
