La Cappuccina: the source of a great Soave
Pietro, Sisto and Elena Tessari of La Cappuccina are the owners of an estate that has been performing at a high level of quality for many years now. Their wines, which are well distributed and rightly well-known, confer lustre on the entire organic movement. They are wines that have been made from organically-grown grapes – and certified as being so – ever since 1985, a fact that makes La Cappuccina a real pioneer in the zone. Here we find the highest regard for both the integrity of the terroir and the wholesomeness of the estate’s wines. There is great attention and care paid to details, because it is in fact a lot of small details which make the difference in high-quality wines. The skilful use of wood during fermentation and maturation is a feature of a cru that is truly representative of the La Cappuccina style: San Brizio, a 100% varietal Garganega from the vineyard behind Villa Buri, the estate’s historic headquarters in Via San Brizio. Indeed, in order to highlight Garganega’s qualities of elegance, barriques have been abandoned in favour of medium-large casks. And so one finds the typical scents of Garganega, with its delicate hints of vanilla and acacia honey, as well as the complex ripe fruit that makes it rich, broad and occasionally even balm-like. This is a great concentrated, well-structured Soave that hails from the black, basaltic rocks of the Alpone Valley. It has an intense straw yellow colour with golden highlights, rendering it a precious wine in which the skill of the vigneron has succeeded in drawing out all of the characteristics of the grapes.
