Giuseppe Zonin is the new President of the "Consorzio di tutela dei Vini D.O.C. di Gambellara", which will soon be able to boast – in early May 2008 – the awarding of D.O.C.G. status for the Recioto produced in this uncontaminated area - a real oasis of unspoilt flora and fauna lying over deposits from an ancient volcano – situated on the border between the Provinces of Vicenza and Verona.
Zonin, born in 1941, had a Classics-based education and holds a degree in Law; he has also been President of the Gambellara "Wine Road". Since 1960, he has worked in his family’s wine company - today one of Italy’s most important – where at present he holds the position of Managing Director.
The constant evolution and rapid development of their company has led the Zonins to increase their vineyard holdings in notable fashion in Italy and in the United States of America, with the acquisition of eleven estates in their homeland’s most prestigious Regions for the production of top-quality wines (the Veneto, Friuli, Lombardy, Piedmont, Tuscany, Puglia and Sicily), as well as the Barboursville Vineyards property in Virginia in the United States. The family now owns a total of 1,800 hectares (4,450 acres) of specialized vineyards. The company employs a total of 500 people and in 2008, the Zonin Group is seeking to attain a turnover of 80 million Euros, of which over 45% will be on export markets, where the Group’s wines are present in no less than 89 countries around the world.
In 2005 Giuseppe Zonin was bestowed with the title of “Commendatore” (“Commander”) of the Italian Republic by President Ciampi.
